I participated in a US State Department intensive language program in the former Soviet Union (CLS Azerbaijani '13). As an aspiring PhD student and applicant to UNL's Geography program, I am interested in studying how spatial regimes of affective nationalism persist in autocratic states and "frustrated democracies" and across the Former Soviet Union; I hope to direct my research to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.
