The Board of Regents is pleased to present a KUDOS award to Rachel Wenzl, Institutional Review Board Manager for Research Compliance Services at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

In supporting this nomination, Sara Frizzell, Director of Research Compliance Services writes, “Since assuming her role with the Institutional Review Board, Rachel has significantly enhanced the operations and efficiency of the office for the protection of human subjects in research.” Rachel is responsible for the implementation of Federal, State and University regulations that govern IRBs and UNL’s Human Research Protection Program. This area of work is extremely complex and takes an individual who has the initiative and positive attitude to delve more deeply into particular topics, ask insightful questions, and make an effort to communicate on a regular basis. Rachel’s ability to quickly assess, understand and apply appropriate regulations is evident in the high quality of work she produces. Rachel routinely demonstrates her competency in working with and interpreting policy, and communicating effectively in every project she is involved in, while maintaining a positive can-do attitude. As Dan Hoyt, Director of Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Consortium notes, “Rachel is widely respected in the university research community.”
Her work over the course of the last year regarding preparation, updates, and delays to the Federal regulations for human subjects research has been exemplary, resulting in other IRBs both in and outside of Nebraska, requesting her assistance and expertise. There are no tasks too big or too small for which she is willing to lend her knowledge, time or assistance. Rachel’s work at UNL is vital to ensuring the protection of human subjects in research and the continued efforts to expand research on the campus. The work ethic and talent that she demonstrates on a daily basis would make any organization proud.
