On behalf of the Board of Regents, it is my pleasure to present a KUDOS Award to Mr. James Lester. Born and raised in Kearney, James has been part of the UNK family for more than 14 years. He is a member of the Event/Move Staff for the Division of Facilities Management and Planning, with primary responsibilities in the Nebraskan Student Union.
James works closely with UNK’s Events and Reservations Coordinator, with technology and sound technicians, and with groups and individuals throughout the campus and community to make each event the best it can be. He sets up and takes down everything from portable staging to furniture to A/V equipment – and he does this for a huge variety of events: from conferences to receptions to formal dinners. Every few years, he even does it for a Board of Regents meeting, as was the case this past October and for which he deserves major credit for the final set-up. He has also worked with architects and project managers during the major renovation of the Nebraskan. In addition, he assists the Landscaping and Grounds Team with exterior maintenance and the Custodial Team with general upkeep when the need arises.
His supervisors describe James as reliable, loyal and exceptional in his role. They point out his attention to detail and his positive and professional interactions with others. Director of Facilities Lee McQueen says of him, “He is extremely dedicated and knowledgeable, and I don’t believe there is anyone who could perform these tasks better.” And Facilities Business Manager, Sharie Waller, echoes the thoughts of his colleagues when she says, “UNK is lucky to have him on its team.” It is also notable to mention that, in his fourteen and a half years at UNK, he has never called in sick or missed a day of work that wasn’t planned.
It is an honor to recognize James Lester for his exceptional work and work ethic. Joining him today is his friend, Tanya Gimeson.
