Campus Conversations, an online professional development series on key topics related to online education in the face of rapidly changing technology, took place on February 9 when Dr Michelle Pacansky-Brock presented Humanizing Online Learning: Leveraging Relationships to Fuel Engagement and Rigor.
During this webcast, cohosted by the University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska Online, Dr. Michelle Pacansky-Brock, author of Best Practices for Teaching with Emerging Technologies, covered how educators humanize their approach to online learning as they navigate these unknown and traumatic times.
In the presentation, she covered:
- How educators must be knowledgeable about how learning happens (and why it does not)
- How to recognize the affective and cognitive dimensions of learning
- The need to understand out students as humans with rich, complicated stories
- How to foster positive instructor-student relationships at a distance to ensure all students are poised for success.
The session illuminated how humanized online teaching provides a foundation of trust you can build upon in your course and foster rigor through empathy.
