NU Board Of Regents To Meet Nov. 29
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln. The Board meeting begins at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.
During its brief meeting, the Board will consider approval of the program statement and budget for construction of a cancer research center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (addendum V-B-1). The $110 million research center, part of the larger cancer center project at UNMC, will be funded with $50 million in state funds and $60 million in private funds.
A full agenda for the meeting is available here.
Prior to the Board meeting, members of the Board, Regents-elect, and university administrative leaders will participate in board development activities. On Wednesday, the group will hear a presentation from Jane Wellman, a leading expert on budgeting in higher education. On Thursday, Barbara Kaufman, president of ROI Consulting Group Inc. in Rancho Mirage, Calif., will lead an educational workshop focused on processes, effectiveness and board relationships. Kaufman works as an executive, business coach and educator to help organizations increase their leadership effectiveness and organizational capacity. She is experienced in working with both corporate and university governing boards and is widely published in business and higher education journals.
The board development activities do not include university business items and are not open to the public. The sole purpose of the activities is to assist the Board in effectively performing its duties to provide governance of the university. No briefings, discussion of public business, formation of tentative policy, vote, or taking of other action regarding any matter over which the Board has supervision, jurisdiction or advisory power will be permitted.
The Board has participated in similar workshops in past years, led by Kaufman and other facilitators.
