Making global connections at Nebraska’s Center for Afghanistan Studies

Since the events of September 11, the world has turned to an unexpected source for expertise on the culture, politics, history, and geography of Afghanistan: the University of Nebraska.
The Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, developed in 1974, is the only institutional base in the United States specifically and exclusively concerned with Afghanistan affairs. Its unique programs offer students and faculty the added dimension of international participation and involvement.
Dr. Thomas E. Gouttierre, director of the center, plays an integral role in educating the public about Afghanistan. As director, Gouttierre been sought out by national and international news media as an expert in Afghanistan studies.
