Karen Janovy Curator of Education Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden UNL
Karen oversees the recruitment, training, and coordination of Sheldon's Docent program – which involves 70 volunteers each year. These docents provide tours and information about works of art to both adults and children. Since 1987 every student in grades four, five, and six in the Lincoln Public Schools have toured the Sheldon.
Karen also is a Senior Lecturer in UNL's Museum Studies program, teaching the history and philosophy of museums. She has served as an instructor for, and co-director of, the Prairie Visions Summer Institute for Teachers. She is co-editor of the catalog of the Sheldon's painting collection and a forthcoming catalog of its sculpture collection.
Karen was named Museum Art Educator of the Year, and received the Nebraska Museum Association's Hugh H. Genoways Award of Achievement, both in 1999.
