Kathleen A. French Education Coordinator Nebraska State Museum UNL
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Board of Regents would like to recognize Kathleen Ann French, Education Coordinator at the University of Nebraska State Museum, with a KUDOS award.
Kathy manages the active learning programs for Lincoln Public Schools that are delivered in the Museum, and ensures that all programs for visiting school groups meet Nebraska standard-based requirements. Kathy brings an immense amount of energy and creativity to her position. For example, in February of this year, she engaged students and faculty from the Department of Geosciences to put on Dinosaurs and Disasters Day, featuring hands-on science activities for kids of all ages. The event attracted 1,400 children, the highest turnout ever for a science day at the Museum.
For the past six years, Kathy has been invited to lead national workshops on science careers for women at the annual meetings of the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science. Her outstanding leadership and positive example, and her work as the Museum’s ambassador to Nebraska’s school teachers have been key factors in helping the State Museum become a vibrant place where Nebraska children can enjoy and learn about science. Kathy is joined today by Priscilla Grew, University of Nebraska State Museum Director. Kathy, thank you for your pioneering work, and congratulations on your successes.
