Dr. Tony Hollingsworth, his immediate supervisor and professor at Eppley, writes that “Tom has the uncanny ability to anticipate what I need and more importantly the needs of those in my laboratory, and to make those things… magically appear at or before the time they are needed. The overall effect is that the lab runs very efficiently and smoothly because of his proactive preparation.”
Dr. Hollingsworth further notes that “Eppley has recognized Tom’s efforts in the past and has honored him with Silver U Awards in June 2000 and again in September 2003.”
Nominator Judy Anderson, a researcher at Eppley, writes that Tom “has co-authored 12 manuscripts and provided technical support for many more…Every student in Dr. Hollingsworth’s lab has been at the receiving end of Tom’s expertise and assistance. On any one day you will see him ordering supplies (including that one-of-a-kind item that no one else can locate), teaching a student the correct way to suture, culturing cells to be sent to someone across the globe, monitoring radiation or other biohazards or a myriad of other duties that only Tom knows.”
