Nominator and supervisor Sharon Stoolman, M.D., writes: “In 2003, the American Association of Medical Colleges Central Group on Educational Affairs executive council asked Gary to develop a certificate program for clerkship administrators for the region. Gary has been able to present this workshop throughout the country. More than 150 clerkship administrators have taken the initial training and approximately 120 have completed the certification process, focused on professional development for clerkship administrators. In March, 2011, he was honored with the Medical Education Laureate, the highest honor bestowed on someone in this organization.”

She continues, “Gary has garnered the respect of his colleagues as a hard-working, organized, and knowledgeable individual. He was instrumental in arranging monthly clerkship administrator meetings for the College of Medicine clinical departments. He has also been asked by other clerkship directors how to restructure their clerkships to provide a more organized experience for the students.”

Dr. Stoolman further states: “Gary has set an example for all clerkship administrators in his drive for excellence. One of our mutual projects was recently accepted by Medical Teacher. Gary was instrumental in developing the project, conducting the statistical analyses, and writing the manuscript.”
