The Sheldon Museum of Art, like the State Capitol, is an architectural masterpiece and continues to be one of the most beautiful museums in the nation specifically because of the care Nebraskans put into it. Day-to-day, this care is provided by university custodial staff. One person is assigned to maintain the museum facility. That person is William Noel. Bill, as he is affectionately known, has been the principal caretaker of Sheldon’s facility, and he is responsible for the pristine condition that greets visitors when they enter the museum.
Daniel Veneciano, Sheldon director, says: “If the museum can still be compared to a multifaceted jewel, it is because of Bill’s careful and meticulous attentiveness to every detail of maintenance, lending the facility’s marble, bronze, and glass a polish and sparkle that is unique to buildings on campus.”
In 2008, Bill received the Museum Professional of the Year Award at Sheldon. Most recently, Bill was appointed to the Employee Advisory Committee for Facilities Management & Planning.
