Statement on the Appropriations Committee’s revised budget recommendations, April 4, 2013
President J. B. Milliken

University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken today issued the following statement in response to the state biennial budget recommendations released by the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee:

“We greatly appreciate the hard work by Chairman Mello and the members of the Appropriations Committee to balance the state’s important priorities. The Committee’s proposed budget addresses critical needs of the university – after five years of relatively flat state funding for operations – providing a level of support that will allow the Board of Regents to hold the line on tuition for Nebraskans over the next two years. This is a very positive step and welcomed by thousands of Nebraska students and their families.

“Also, the Committee’s support for a new nursing facility in Lincoln, which has been the university’s top capital priority for years, will help us address the growing need for highly trained nurses in Nebraska. It has long been clear that the Committee recognized the importance of this project, which is now possible in part because of savings from the university’s veterinary diagnostic facility funded last session. We are grateful for this continuing commitment to our Building a Healthier Nebraska initiative.”
