I am a social and behavioral practitioner-researcher (public health, maternal & child health, medical anthropology) who has worked in East Africa since 2005. My primary focus is refugee health, broadly conceived. Recent projects have centered on urban refugees’ psychosocial/mental health in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, identifying socio-culturally meaningful supports that buffer against emotional distress and improve well-being in urban refugee populations. I am in the preliminary stages of research on effective, low-cost maternal health programming using community health workers (CHWs) in Kakuma refugee camp.
