I lead a coupled socio-ecological study of water quality, fisheries, and natural resource use in Lake Victoria, Kenya. I am investigating how lakeshore communities can improve water quality (and lessen health risks) in a eutrophic system. This interdisciplinary project brings together social scientists, ecologists, and engineers to apply a biogeochemical framework to understand water quality intervention options. I have also worked on Lake Tanganyika, studying the sources of nutrients to shoreline fisheries. I am generally interested in projects related to sustainability, tropical limnology, and stream and lake ecosystems.
