On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am pleased to present a KUDOS Award to Shay Powers, Video and Access Systems Supervisor, with the University of Nebraska Police and Public Safety Department at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
As video and access systems supervisor, Shay leads the team responsible for security camera services and installations across UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, UNO, and Clarkson College, as well as Nebraska Medicine locations throughout the state.
When it comes to commercial and enterprise video surveillance systems, Shay is the department’s go-to expert. But his contribution goes well beyond his technical expertise. Recognizing the challenges associated with maintaining a large and continually growing security camera network, Shay developed a planned replacement program that balances equipment life, warranty coverage, image quality, and cost. His work has transformed camera replacement from a reactive process into a more strategic and sustainable program, helping ensure reliable security technology is available when, and where, needed.
Just as important is the way Shay approaches the people he serves. Colleagues consistently recognize his ability to listen, understand their security needs and develop practical solutions.
As Chief Charlotte Evans said, “Shay brings together something that is not always easy to find; both a tremendous technical knowledge and a genuine commitment to service. He understands that the technology his team manages is ultimately about people and their safety. He listens, he solves problems, and he takes ownership of making our systems better. Our department and the institutions we serve are stronger because he is part of our team.”
Today, Shay is joined by his Supervisor Steve Williamson and UNO Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Police Charlotte Evans.
Please join me in congratulating Shay Powers and thanking him for his leadership, expertise, and commitment to strengthening security and public safety across our educational and clinical communities.
