Tyler Schmidt Officer University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department UNL
Tyler regularly goes beyond what might normally be expected of law enforcement personnel. For example, when he arrived at Harper Residence Hall early on the evening of October 4, 2001, he found an emergency medical team working feverishly to resuscitate a student with what turned out to be a brain aneurysm. Tyler volunteered to notify the student's father – and when he got off work he went to the hospital to help comfort the family.
He was also selected, along with several other officers, to provide security for the Cornhusker football team at its away games. And, he was one of a special team of officers who recently provided intensified surveillance of UNL parking lots, leading to the arrest of individuals who had been breaking into vehicles for two months.
