Robert Harris Payroll Manager Human Resources department UNO
Bob’s duties include ensuring that all employees are paid for the correct amount of time worked, and from the appropriate cost center accounts. That includes faculty, staff, and student workers.
A Beatrice native, Bob joined the UNO staff as assistant payroll manager in 1972, and has been manager since 1978. But he says the job has changed considerably during his tenure. Technology, for example, has had a remarkable impact. Bob points out that, when he began, IBM cards were sent out to be key-punched, and there was a considerable amount of manual processing. Today’s advanced, sophisticated software and equipment are both faster and more accurate.
And, more change is in sight. In the future Bob says he foresees an entirely electronic process, with employees entering their own information electronically and the entire process completed by technology.
