Laura Damuth Undergradute Research Coordinator and Fellowship Advisor Dean of Undergraduate Studies UNL
The Board of Regents is pleased to present a KUDOS award to Laura Damuth, Undergradute Research Coordinator and Fellowship Advisor in the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Laura was hired in 1999 to administer the Undergraduate Creative Activity and Research Program (UCARE). Under her guidance, UCARE has grown to nearly 400 undergraduate students working with over 350 UNL faculty. The existence of these important mentoring relationships, which foster both research and creative activity, are largely due to Laura’s visits with department chairs to encourage them to give time and attention to their undergraduate students. Laura also plans the annual Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium and the annual Spring Undergraduate Research Fair.
Perhaps most importantly, every day Laura inspires students, and encourages them to apply for national awards such as Rhodes Scholarships, Fulbright grants and Truman Scholarships. She is sincerely dedicated to undergraduates’ achievement and the successes of her students reflect positively not only on Laura but on the University of Nebraska as a whole.
Laura’s guests today are her husband, Peter Lefferts, and Rita Kean, Dean of Undergraduate Studies. Laura, thank you for your service to the students of UNL.
