Staff Secretary, Institute for Ethnic Studies and International Studies Program, UNL
The Board of Regents is pleased to present a KUDOS award to Nancy Knapp, Staff Secretary for both the Institute for Ethnic Studies and the International Studies Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Colleagues and supervisors call Nancy “a treasure for UNL: No one works harder and with a better heart than Nancy.”
Her responsibilities are diverse. As the only staff person for two complex academic units, she is solely accountable for a broad range of tasks – effortlessly handling the varied activities required to keep these two programs running smoothly. Aside from basic office tasks, Nancy also acts as receptionist and deals with inquiries from students, faculty and staff, and community members. She manages all the budgets within International Studies and Ethnic Studies, takes care of course scheduling, helps with candidate visits for faculty positions, and processes travel requests, purchase orders and other paperwork for faculty members.
The director of International Studies writes: “Nancy’s work is beyond outstanding. She is the heart, soul and brains of the office. In the years that I have been director, Nancy has performed her job flawlessly. She is the ideal employee.”
In addition to serving as an efficient and productive employee,
co-workers say Nancy works to ensure these two offices maintain a positive environment for all who enter. This is reflected in many ways: a basket of candy on her desk, a hallway bulletin board that reflects the seasons, a courteous, friendly and cheerful manner.
Nancy has brought the following guests: her daughter, Missy Habel, her son and daughter-in-law,Trevin and Michelle Knapp, and her son Darrin Knapp and his wife, Angela.
Please join me in thanking Nancy for her dedication to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
