David Cicotello
Director of New Student Enrollment, UNO

The Board of Regents is pleased to present a KUDOS award today to David Cicotello, director of Recruitment Services at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also is keeper of the most coveted giveaway item in UNO history: foam Maverick Mojo horns.

Cicotello – who has been at UNO for 10 years - has spearheaded the ongoing university Maverick Mojo recruitment and advertising campaign. The Mojo ads, created by Ervin & Smith Advertising and Public Relations, feature college students in typical college situations exhibiting extraordinary school pride. The campaign appeals to teens by using irreverent humor and real UNO students.

Cicotello embraced all forms of media for the Mojo campaign: traditional print, radio and billboards, but he also explored progressive technology such as: text messaging prospective students, and using a website with links to videos and slideshows of current UNO students.

Cicotello says: "Maverick Mojo was created to connect with high school students during their college selection process. But we believe it also resonates with current UNO students, alumni and the entire community of Maverick supporters."

Since its launch in the fall 2006, the Maverick Mojo campaign has earned industry awards that include honors from the Nebraska Public Relations Society of America, the Nebraska ADDYs, and the Omaha chapter of the American Marketing Association.
