Project Manager for the Office of Research and Economic Development, UNL
The Board of Regents is pleased to present a Kudos award to Karen Underwood, project manager for the Office of Research and Economic Development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
In her role, Karen develops and implements major events that often involve external constituent dignitaries visiting UNL. She has coordinated official visits for hundreds of federal program officers and elected and appointed officials. She takes utmost care to manage every detail and casting the university in the best possible light. Guests often comment on the comprehensive approach Karen took in managing their visit, including "not a detail was left to chance," and "Karen created an amazingly full schedule yet allowed flexibility for me to adjust my schedule as needed to optimize my time at UNL."

Karen worked directly with a UNL software development team to develop an events management system, which allows her and her colleagues to efficiently manage the online registration for the more than three dozen events she coordinates each year. The events range from small faculty interdisciplinary forums to a global conference with 1,500-plus invitees.
Karen recognizes the importance of collaborations with our faculty, external guests and visitors. She leaves them with the feeling that there really is no place like Nebraska.
Today Karen has brought the following guests: Jim Underwood, her husband; Mike Zeleny, her supervisor; and Prem Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development.
Please join me in thanking Karen for her dedication to UNL and to the Office of Research and Economic Development.
