NU Innovation Hub

MAking A Difference Together

Innovation Hub Overview

The University of Nebraska Innovation Hub aims to help our partners — students, faculty and staff across the NU community — design and deliver transformative experiences that enhance teaching, learning, research and the student experience via technology. Additionally, the Hub provides a vehicle by which members of the NU community can view the portfolio of pilots and innovative initiatives we are championing, as well as offering a streamlined process for additional partners to take part in a current project.

If you have any questions about the Innovation Hub, please contact Bret Blackman, NU Vice President for IT and CIO at bblackman@nebraska.edu, or Jaci Lindburg, PhD, NU Associate Vice President for Digital Education & IT Strategy at jlindburg@nebraska.edu.

Request for Proposals

The Hub is seeking proposals that are strategic, impactful at multiple NU campuses, and forward-facing to create a noticeable, positive impact for students, faculty and staff. This effort — now in its fourth cycle — was launched in 2019 as the NU ITS Big Ideas program and is now a collaborative effort with NU ITS and the NU Office of Digital Education.

The call for proposals closed in October 2021. Proposals were reviewed by a system-wide committee. Finalists were notified and asked to present a brief overview of their idea to the review team in December 2021. New project announcements will be made each Spring.

2022 Innovation Hub Projects

The NU Applied Research in Technology Lab

By partnering with faculty members who share research interests in cybersecurity and teaching with technology, the Applied Research Lab links faculty researchers to these data-rich environments for specific research studies.

Adaptive Courseware Community of Practice

Adaptive courseware offers students a personalized learning environment based on goals set by the instructor. As a student studies in a platform, content is automatically adjusted based on the student's progress. This faculty-led partnership program will increase the awareness of adaptive courseware, amplify the support of adaptive courseware tools, and study the impact of adaptive courseware in practice at NU.

Prior Innovation Hub Projects

Student Affordability

By formalizing an ITS program centered around student affordability and inclusive access for all, we can partner with our campuses to decrease course material costs to students, improve efficiencies for instructors, and provide a more inclusive learning environment for our students.

Digital Backpacks/Briefcase

Connecting students, faculty and staff to ITS services so they can learn, teach and work from wherever they are.

Digital Accessibility

A key contribution to access, affordability, accountability, diversity, and inclusion, ITS aims to create environments where everyone, everywhere can access information.
