Searches underway for University of Nebraska CFO, general counsel

University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds said today that national searches are underway for two executive leadership positions at NU: vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer, and vice president and general counsel.

Reporting to the president, the vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer is the senior business officer for the University of Nebraska system. The CFO oversees all financial and administrative services supporting NU’s $2.6 billion operating budget, including financial and tax reporting, budget and planning, debt offerings, management of university-held endowments and trust funds, and risk management activities. The CFO works closely with the vice chancellors for business and finance at NU’s four campuses as well as the business leads in human resources, facilities management, procurement and information technology, and also serves as treasurer of the National Strategic Research Institute, Nebraska Applied Research Institute, University Technology Development Corp. and University of Nebraska Facilities Corp.

Reporting to the president, the vice president and general counsel is the chief legal officer for the University of Nebraska system. The general counsel leads a legal team responsible for all university legal matters, including employment issues, real estate transactions, contract negotiations, administrative matters, litigation and appeals, intellectual property and technology transfer, athletics, health sciences, university policies, rules, regulations, and compliance with all local, state and federal laws. When appropriate, the general counsel retains and oversees outside legal counsel. The general counsel also serves as secretary of the National Strategic Research Institute, Nebraska Applied Research Institute and University Technology Development Corp., and legal counsel to the Nebraska Innovation Campus Development Corp.
