The University of Nebraska (“University”) has established an international (including travel to U.S. Territories such as American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands) travel insurance policy through AIG Travel Protector Insurance. The University also has a Hawaii/Alaska medical evacuation insurance policy through AIG Travel Protector Insurance.
Faculty and Staff
All active employees are automatically covered by these policies when traveling on University of Nebraska business.
If a traveler is adding on personal (sojourn*) days to their University-sponsored trip or is traveling with a companion who will be sharing the same accommodations, the traveler and the companion must purchase coverage for their personal (sojourn) days. This is required and at an additional cost to the traveler. The companion must purchase insurance for the entire duration of the trip; employee is only required to purchase insurance for personal (sojourn) days. Coverage is limited to 30 days for Hawaii and Alaska. Coverage for companion/sojourn travel will not exist unless purchased by the traveler before departure by visiting the eMarket for International Personal Travel Insurance. Note: the insurance is available to all employees, no matter the campus affiliation. The cost of companion/sojourn coverage is $1.55/day for international travel and $0.70/day for Hawaii/Alaska travel.
Students enrolled at the University of Nebraska (including student employees and graduate assistants) who are involved in such University travel should contact the Education Abroad office on their campus before their departure to purchase coverage under such policies. The cost of coverage is $1.50/day for international travel and $0.68/day for Hawaii/Alaska travel. The student can also purchase coverage at the same rates for any travel companion(s) sharing the same accommodations and for personal (sojourn) travel (limited to 30 days for Hawaii and Alaska) added to their University trip.
