What is the Nebraska System Assessment engagement?
The University of Nebraska System Assessment engagement is an 8-month long assessment of the current-state operating model of the University of Nebraska System and each of its campuses with the goal of identifying opportunities for improved governance and collaboration, administrative service delivery, and financial resource management.
Specifically, what areas of the university is the team investigating?
The engagement is divided into four individual categories, which include the following:
- Strategic Alignment and Mission Differentiation
- Governance and Decision-Making Structures
- Organizational Structure and Administrative Alignment
- Financial Model and Resource Allocation
How long does this engagement last?
The engagement will last approximately 8 months and is expected to conclude in December 2026.
Which campuses are involved in the assessment?
All of the University of Nebraska campuses are included in the assessment, including the University of Nebraska System office.
What changes should I expect as a result of this assessment?
During the 8-month assessment timeline, the engagement team will work on collecting data and conducting analyses in support of developing a current state assessment and identifying future state opportunities. During this time, there will be no anticipated changes to roles, operating models, or financial allocations. After the final recommendation has been shared with the University of Nebraska System leadership, there may be identified initiatives and changes that will take place in response to the recommendations. The University of Nebraska will keep the university community informed regarding any changes or initiatives as they are identified.
Will I be expected to share data or resources with the engagement team?
At certain points during the engagement, there may be requests to share data and information in support of the engagement goals. You and your team may also be asked to participate in interviews to share qualitative perspectives on the current state of your campus, division, and your interaction with the System office. Any data that is collected as part of this assessment will be shared on a University of Nebraska collaboration site and will be shared and stored in accordance with the University of Nebraska’s data and IT policies. All interviews will be confidential and interview insights will be shared in aggregate and not directly attributed to a single interviewee.
What does project oversight and governance look like?
This assessment is being guided by University of Nebraska System leadership in partnership with Deloitte Consulting. University leaders are helping oversee the process, stay informed on progress, and make sure the work remains connected to the University’s mission and the needs of its campuses and communities. Deloitte’s role is to listen, gather information, assess the current state, and develop recommendations for consideration. No decisions are being made as part of this assessment. As the work moves forward, updates will be shared on the project website, and members of the University community will have opportunities to share feedback through engagement activities and an open input form.
