Kendra Schmid, Ph.D.
Interim Vice Provost
Dr. Kendra Schmid joined UNMC in 2007 after completing her Ph.D. in statistics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and is currently a professor in UNMC’s Department of Biostatistics. In addition to her faculty position, Dr. Schmid serves in university-level administrative roles as Executive Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, and the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, a role that includes overseeing the Office of Institutional Research, directing the Office of Accreditation and Assessment, and serving as UNMC’s Academic Liaison to the Higher Learning Commission. Her previous administrative appointments include Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies, and in the College of Public Health include two years as Interim Chair of the Biostatistics Department, one year as Interim Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, and five years as Director of Masters Programs.
Dr. Schmid also spent a year as Interim Dean of UNMC Graduate Studies, and currently serves as Interim Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at UNMC and Interim Vice Provost for the University of Nebraska System.
Dr. Schmid has taught statistics and biostatistics courses and trainings to multiple audiences, including undergraduate and graduate students, in-service teachers, and research groups. She has served as primary mentor for 13 students and mentored over 50 students as a committee member. Her research portfolio includes leading or collaborating on over 40 funded projects studying a variety of health topics, authoring and coauthoring numerous peer reviewed publications, and working with international companies on commissioned research projects. Dr. Schmid’s work has been recognized by numerous media organizations, and she has received awards for her efforts in research, teaching, and service. Dr. Schmid has held national roles through participation on Data Safety Monitoring Committees and Institutional Review Boards and recently completed a term on the Board of Directors for the American Statistical Association. Dr. Schmid has been actively in involved in statistics at the national level, including serving on the Biostatistics and Epidemiology committee for the United States Medical Licensing Exam.
In addition to an M.S. and Ph.D. in statistics, Dr. Schmid also holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration, with an emphasis on Higher Education Administration.
