Matt Blomstedt, Ph.D., is the Associate Vice President for Government Relations and works with the External Relations team of the President's Office to guide University-wide strategies to appropriately engage and connect policy makers with the vision and direction of the University President under the mission of the University system. Blomstedt provides leadership to support each of the University campuses in partnership with each of the Chancellors' offices and their designated government relations leads.
Dr. Blomstedt, previously served as Nebraska's Commissioner of Education from 2014 to 2024 and held several state and national roles in education policy. Blomstedt has a Ph.D. In Educational Leadership and Higher Education from UNL as well as a Master of Community and Regional Planning Degree both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Blomstedt also received his B.A. in Political Science from UNL.
Blomstedt is a lifelong Nebraskan originally from Palisade and resides in Central City with his wife, Angela. Matt and Angela have five children ranging from high school age through recent college graduate.
