Dele Davies, M.D., priority candidate for the position of chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will begin a series of visits with university leadership, faculty, staff, students, donors and community members later this month.
Dr. Davies, who has served as interim UNMC chancellor since 2024, was named the priority candidate for UNMC chancellor May 1 after a search process that was open to candidates across the University of Nebraska System.
As part of a public vetting process, Dr. Davies will visit University of Nebraska campuses in Kearney, Lincoln and Omaha, as well as UNMC facilities in Norfolk and Scottsbluff. At each stop, he will have dedicated time to visit with members of the campus and surrounding communities, share his vision and answer questions.
"During his 14 years at the UNMC, Dr. Davies has demonstrated a deep commitment to students, patients and communities across Nebraska,” said NU President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “I’m excited for members of our university community to have the chance to meet with Dr. Davies and hear his vision for the future of UNMC and the statewide care it supports, as well as to provide meaningful feedback on his candidacy for the next chancellor of UNMC.”

“I look forward to engaging with the UNMC, NU and Nebraska communities in the coming days,” Dr. Davies said. “Listening is at the heart of the chancellor role — listening to our faculty, staff, students, partners and communities across Nebraska, and to all those who count on UNMC to educate, discover and heal. I am grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from them, learn from their experiences and gain valuable insights to help us better meet the needs of Nebraskans, as well as share my ideas for building a bold future together. I also want to thank everyone who has contributed their time and skills to this process.”
NU faculty, staff and students, as well as community members, are encouraged to provide their feedback on Dr. Davies and may do so online. Those who wish to provide feedback must do so by June 3, 2026.
The NU Board of Regents could vote to approve the new UNMC chancellor as soon as their June 18 meeting.
