The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the board room at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St., in Lincoln. The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed at www.nebraska.edu.

Among the agenda items is the elimination of two low-enrollment academic majors and one center, as well as and establishment of several new majors and undergraduate certificates at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
The Board will consider elimination of UNO’s Bachelor of Arts in art history major, its Bachelor of Arts in religious studies major, and the Center for Innovation in Arts Education.
At the same time, the Board will consider the establishment of a number of undergraduate programs in UNO’s College of Business Administration, including bachelor’s degrees in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources management, logistics, management and marketing. In addition, the board will consider establishment of two undergraduate certificates — one in integrated leadership and another in operational leadership.
“Our campuses are continually evaluating our degree programs to ensure our students are well-positioned to move into fulfilling careers that serve the needs of our communities and our state,” said NU President Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
The board will also consider approval of several recent leadership appointments, including for Katherine S. Ankerson, who was tapped to serve as the interim chancellor of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus earlier this month.
“Interim Chancellor Ankerson is the right person to lead the UNL campus at this moment,” said Dr. Gold. “She is a strong leader and an incredible collaborator. It has been a pleasure to work alongside her these past few weeks.”
In other business, the board will:
- Hear comments by Sen. John Arch, speaker of the Nebraska Legislature;
- Recognize Sen. Deb Fischer for her receipt of the National Champion of Science Award;
- Consider an updated intermediate design phase for the Biomechanics Research Building Phase 3 Addition at UNO;
- Consider the Board of Regents meeting calendar for 2026-27.
