President Hank Bounds to visit southeast Nebraska communities

University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds will visit several Southeast Nebraska communities on Monday, Nov. 23, to engage with a range of stakeholders and share the university’s story. Bounds’ agenda for the day includes a community coffee co-hosted with Sen. Dan Watermeier of Syracuse, an assembly with high school students to talk about the importance of college, a meeting with area Rotary club members, and an open dialogue with Peru State College President Dan Hanson to discuss shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration.

Bounds will be joined for the day by NU Regent Rob Schafer, who represents most of Southeast Nebraska.

Members of the media are invited to attend any of the following events on Monday:

  • 8:30 a.m.: Community coffee co-hosted with Schafer and Sen. Dan Watermeier, Syracuse Public Library, 480 Fifth St.

Bounds and Watermeier will provide updates on university and legislative issues, discuss shared goals and opportunities for the university and state, and engage with community members.

  • 9:45 a.m.: Syracuse High School visit, 1500 Education Dr.

Bounds, a former high school teacher and principal, will speak to students about the power of higher education and its potential to change lives.

  • Noon: Pawnee City Rotary luncheon, Southeast Nebraska Community Action Center, 549 F St.

Bounds will have a dialogue with Rotary members about his first seven months as university president and priorities moving forward.

  • 2:30 p.m. Stakeholder meeting co-hosted with Peru State College President Dan Hanson, Center for Academic Achievement and Transition Conference Room, 600 Hoyt St.

Bounds and Hanson will engage in a dialogue with area stakeholders about higher education issues in Nebraska and opportunities for collaboration between Nebraska’s public university and state college institutions.
