Interim President Linder to visit Kearney, Grand Island

Interim University of Nebraska President James Linder, M.D., will visit Kearney and Grand Island Oct. 13-14 to speak to business and community leaders; meet with University of Nebraska at Kearney faculty, staff and students; and participate in other activities in the community.

Linder will speak to the Kearney Noon Rotary Club, which meets at the Ramada Inn at 301 2nd Ave., on Oct. 13, and the Rotary Club of Grand Island, which meets at the Riverside Golf Club at 2820 Riverside Dr., on Oct. 14. Members of the media are welcome to attend either luncheon, both at noon. In his remarks, Linder will provide an update on the University of Nebraska, including the university’s 2015-17 budget request, momentum across the four campuses, his priorities as interim president and other topics.

In Kearney, Linder also will give a Science Café titled “The Computer Will See You Now: The Use of Computers in Medical Diagnosis.” The event, presented by the UNK chapter of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, is at 6:15 p.m. at Cunningham’s Journal, 15 W. 23rd St. It is free and open to the public. Science Cafés are informal scientific talks that are meant to bring scientists and the public together in a casual setting and expand scientific knowledge in the community.

Linder, a pathologist by training who also serves as chief medical officer of Roche Diagnostics Hematology, has developed systems for telemedicine, imaging and computer-assisted diagnostics for more than 20 years. His Science Café will focus on the growing role of technology in diagnosis and health care delivery, and what patients can expect in the next decade.
