Happy New Year from the University of Nebraska System!
Eighteen days into 2023, we are turning our attention to the First Session of the 108th Nebraska Legislature.
On Wednesday, January 4, we welcomed a new class of state senators, observed legislative leadership elections and started the process of introducing new legislative bills. As we move from bill introductions to legislative hearings, we will offer virtual legislative briefings during the 2023 legislative session to keep you updated on the crucial day-to-day work of the Nebraska Legislature and how it impacts your university.
Former State Senator and Vice President of External Relations Heath Mello will run the briefings on legislation that impacts the University of Nebraska System and our four campuses.
This year’s first virtual legislative briefing will be on Monday, January 23rd, at 9:00 a.m. CST.
During this first briefing, Heath will share a quick update on the NU System's official legislative agenda, information on the 2023-2024 legislative leadership and committee makeup, and what we see as the major issues confronting the Nebraska Legislature this session.

On behalf of the University of Nebraska System, our four campuses and nearly 50,000 students, thank you again for advocating for accessible, affordable higher education in Nebraska. We cannot tell the story of the university’s statewide impact without you. And with so many new officials at the State Capitol this year, your voice matters more than ever.
Thank you for believing in the power of education and your University of Nebraska.
