Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
The start of the Fall 2025 semester marks an exciting new chapter for the University of Nebraska, as our campuses once again come alive with the energy, vibrancy, and promise of a new academic year. To our returning students, faculty, and staff: it is wonderful to see you back. And to our newest Lopers, Huskers, Mavericks, and Labs: welcome to the NU family. You are beginning a transformative chapter in your life, and we are honored you have chosen to begin that journey with us.
Our students are the backbone of everything we do. You are the heart and soul of this university, and our mission—teaching, research, and engagement—exists to prepare you to thrive in your lives and careers. At the same time, it is the strength of our extraordinary faculty, staff, and partners that makes our work possible. Their innovation, talent, and dedication are what enable the University of Nebraska to serve as a catalyst for opportunity and excellence for our state and beyond.
This fall also brings opportunities to come together in service. Once again, in partnership with Abbott and in friendly competition with our fellow Big Ten institutions, we will take part in the We Give Blood challenge. Last year, the University of Nebraska community proudly won this competition, and we are excited to defend our title. This effort is a powerful example of our competitive spirit—and even more importantly, of the ways we come together to give back and make a difference for others.
In the weeks ahead, I look forward to sharing more about our momentum and our vision for the future. On Thursday, Sept. 4, I will deliver my State of the University address at the Nebraska State Capitol, where I will highlight our areas of progress, speak to the challenges we face, and outline how we will continue our Odyssey to the Extraordinary together. I hope you will join us via livestream.
This is an exciting time for the University of Nebraska. Thank you for the many ways you bring our mission to life every day. I am deeply grateful for your contributions, your creativity, and your care for one another. As we embark on a new academic year, I wish each of you great success, fulfillment, and inspiration in the journey ahead.
With gratitude,
Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.
