On Monday, April 15, the legislative session will only have one day remaining—with Sine Die or Day 60 falling on Thursday, April 18. Over the last few weeks, the focus has turned to finalizing mid-biennium budget adjustments, tax reform, and moving the remaining priority bills through the final rounds of debate.
For the University of Nebraska, our legislative agenda has met with success, including:
- Securing grant funding for students to partner with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to help identify remains of missing service members and civilians.
- Making it easier for dental residents in Nebraska to be recruited and retained.
- Expanding placement for students in behavioral health clinical rotations to high-need areas, including Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Centers and county jails.
We thank you for your support during this legislative session. Educating yourself on the issues, raising your voice and sharing your story makes a tremendous difference.
Looking Ahead
We are working ahead to next year’s 90-day legislative session, during which the university’s biennial budget is set. State support will continue to be critical as we navigate growing costs and continue to implement budget cuts at the university. This is an important time to remind senators of how much value the University of Nebraska has to the state. From workforce development to healthcare, agriculture to ground-breaking research, Nebraskans are touched every day by the work we do here.
As a reminder, I have been giving monthly Zoom briefings for NU Advocates during the 2024 legislative session. This session’s final virtual legislative briefing will be today, Monday, April 15th from 11:30 to noon, where I’ll do a debrief of the session and look ahead to 2025. You are invited to register for the virtual briefing here: https://wkf.ms/3GMw7xS
Thank you again for supporting your university!
