On March 3, President Ted Carter and university leadership presented the University’s biennial budget request before the Nebraska Legislature’s Appropriations Committee. It was humbling to see students, leaders from business and agriculture, and alumni show their support for affordable and accessible higher education.
We are grateful to Chairman Clements, Vice Chairwoman Wishart and the entire Appropriations Committee for the engaging and thoughtful dialogue about the impact and importance of funding higher education. As President Carter stated in his testimony, no other entity in the state delivers the skilled workforce and research on the scale and depth of the University of Nebraska System. Our accomplishments are due to the historic partnership with and support from the state.
You can still show your support for the NU System’s budget request by emailing the members of the Appropriations Committee to let them know that you support your University of Nebraska System.
We invite you to celebrate the impact that the university has on Nebraska at “I Love NU” Day, which will be held at the State Capitol on Wednesday, April 5th from 1-3 pm.
We'll kick off the event with a brief program, then attendees will head to the Norris Chamber balcony to be recognized by the Nebraska Legislature. We’ll be there to help as supporters speak to state senators about the impact the university has made on their lives. If you can’t make the event, you can still share why you love the University of Nebraska on social media during “I Love NU” Week, April 3-8. Tag your campus and use #ILoveNU.
Additionally, our next NU Advocates virtual “Legislative Briefing” will be Monday, March 20, at 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. You can RSVP here and submit any questions you have about the legislative session.
Thank you for believing in your university and for being an advocate for accessible, affordable higher education!
