Testimony on NU’s “Building a Healthier Nebraska” legislative proposal is tomorrow
University of Nebraska President James B. Milliken will be joined by other university, legislative, business and community leaders tomorrow to testify in support of NU’s Building a Healthier Nebraska legislative initiative. The Legislature’s Appropriations Committee will hold hearings on the four bills that make up the initiative – LB 1055, LB 1065, LB 1066 and LB 1089 – beginning at 1:30 p.m. in Room 1003.
Overflow seating will be available in Room 1023. In addition, live video streaming from the Legislature is provided by Nebraska Educational Telecommunications.
Tomorrow’s testimony will include results of an economic impact analysis for Building a Healthier Nebraska conducted by the Center for Public Affairs Research at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Building a Healthier Nebraska seeks state support for capital projects in Lincoln, Omaha and Kearney that would expand the university’s capacity in nursing and allied health education, cancer research and care, and veterinary diagnostics. Legislation for the four components of the initiative has been introduced by Senators Galen Hadley, Tony Fulton, Tom Hansen and John Nelson, respectively.
