In the wake of the 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech, many parents are understandably more concerned about the safety of their sons and daughters on college campuses. We understand and share those concerns, and have undertaken a number of measures to help ensure that students enjoy their years here as free as possible from threats to their safety or well-being.
Fully trained campus security personnel work closely with community law enforcement agencies to ensure the well-being of students, faculty and staff. New technologies are being implemented to permit rapid notification of students in the event of emergency. Each campus offers a full range of resources for crime prevention and safety.

Rape and Sexual Assault Policy
The University of Nebraska values civility, dignity, diversity, education, equality, freedom, honesty, and safety and is firmly committed to maintaining a campus environment free from sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Rape, acquaintance rape, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment and stalking are all sexual misconduct and are against the law and are unacceptable behaviors under University of Nebraska policy. Sexual misconduct is conduct in violation of University policy and state and federal law that the University will take action to eliminate, prevent, and redress once the University has notice that sexual misconduct has occurred.
Sexual misconduct jeopardizes the mental, physical, and emotional welfare of students, faculty and staff, as well as the safety of our community. Sexual misconduct diminishes individual dignity and impedes access to educational, social, and employment opportunities. It can permanently impact lives and may cause lasting physical and psychological harm. Sexual misconduct violates our institutional values and its presence in the community presents a barrier to fulfilling the University’s scholarly, research, educational, patient care, and service missions. Sexual misconduct, therefore, will not be tolerated at the University of Nebraska and is expressly prohibited.
The University has implemented policies and procedures to address the rights of all individuals involved in cases of alleged sexual misconduct. These apply to all University of Nebraska employees and students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, and to all programs and activities under the jurisdiction of the University of Nebraska. They provide information regarding the University’s efforts related to sexual misconduct, as well as how the University will proceed once it is made aware of sexual misconduct in keeping with our institutional values and to meet our legal obligations under Title IX and other relevant law.
