Yoshiharu Ameku Administrator of the Pre-Clinical Lab College of Dentistry UNMC
Yosh – who is a dentist – was exposed to dentistry at an early age, because his grandfather practiced dentistry on an island near Yosh's birthplace, Okinawa. Raised in Kansas, Yosh came to UNMC to study dentistry in 1986 and has been with the University ever since.
Through his work with second-year dental students in the clinic, Yosh attempts to develop in them a sense of empathy for patients. "These are not just procedures," he tells them. "There is an emotional component and a spiritual component to the relationship between dentist and patient." His advice is to treat each patient as if they were your mother or sister.
Yosh spends his free time playing golf or tennis and enjoying the outdoors with his family. Wherever he goes, he is an excellent ambassador for the University.
