The Board of Regents is pleased to present a KUDOS award today to Doug Loewens, Circulation Day Supervisor for Criss Library at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Doug joined the campus community five years ago as a student worker, later took on a full-time staff position and was then promoted to circulation day supervisor. As supervisor, he arrives at the library at 6:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, to make sure everything is in order when the building opens at 7.
Throughout the day he assists staff and student workers with checking out and checking in various materials – works on projects and schedules – and answers a variety of questions. Recently he initiated positive changes in the library that include cleaning up old files and better organizing the department.
A co-worker writes: “Doug is a role model for not just our student workers, but for the entire library. His exemplary commitment to service, combined with his excellent communication and organizational skills, make him an ideal employee.”
Doug said he finds job satisfaction in all aspects of his job: puzzling together student and staff work schedules, knowing he has been helpful in resolving problems for students and co-workers, and even dealing with the challenge of overdue library fines.
He says: “I try to make it as pleasant experience as it can be.”
Doug’s guest today is his wife, Kathy.
Please join me in thanking Doug Loewens for his contributions to Criss Library at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
