On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am pleased to present a KUDOS award to Miriam McCann, Safety/Compliance Program Manager in the Comparative Medicine department at UNMC. Mimi, as she’s called by her peers, has been employed with the Comparative Medicine department for over 10 years. In her current role, Mimi is responsible for the annual review of approximately 1,200 research proposals, including protocols for animal use in regards to safety and compliance issues.
Dr. Robert Dixon, director of Comparative Medicine and nominator, said in his nomination letter that Mimi always makes the extra effort to ensure the animals, the research community and the staff are all safe. “She routinely devotes extra time to meet with and train researchers and their staff members to ensure their safety when working with radiological, biological and chemical hazardous agents used in research. Mimi’s peers have come to rely extensively on her insight and experience in safety and compliance matters. She has made extremely valuable contributions to the research enterprise at UNMC.”
Co-nominator Dr. Peter Iwen calls Mimi a team player and a person of integrity. “Mimi is pleasant to interact with and has always gone out of her way to help others whenever needed. She has the motivation to do the best job possible to be successful.”
Today, Miriam McCann is accompanied by her husband, Delayne Katzberg, her parents MaryAnn and Tony Calta, and her nominator, Dr. Robert Dixon. Please join me in thanking Miriam McCann for her contributions to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
