The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet Friday, March 25, 2011, at 8 a.m. at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln. Two members of the Board who are unable to participate in person will join the meeting via video conference from remote sites. The Board meeting is open to the public and will be audio-streamed live at www.nebraska.edu.

The main business item for this meeting will be the consideration of a resolution from the University of Nebraska at Omaha regarding a change in its athletic conference affiliation from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association to the Summit League and application to change from NCAA Division 2 to Division 1. Individuals wishing to offer public comment before the Board should notify the Office of the Corporation Secretary at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Because a high volume of public comment is expected at the meeting, each individual’s testimony will be limited to three minutes. The chairman of the Board has recommended that the 30 minutes normally allowed for public comment during Board meetings be extended to 90 minutes to more fully accommodate public testimony on the subject of UNO athletic conference alignment.

In announcing the meeting, Board Chairman Bob Whitehouse said, “The Board of Regents is strongly committed to ensuring the long-term viability and success of UNO athletics, and we will be meeting to consider the recommendation from Chancellor Christensen and Athletic Director Alberts. The Board's decision in this matter will be based on what we believe is in the best long-term interests of UNO.”
