Admiral James O. Ellis has withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency of the University of Nebraska. Ellis notified Don Blank, Chairman of the Board of Regents, by email late this morning that he no longer wants to be considered for the position.

“I have decided to decline the invitation to a subsequent interview and ask that my name be removed from consideration for the Presidency of the University of Nebraska,” Ellis wrote. “I thank the staff, faculty and supporters of the University for their participation and hospitality over these past weeks, and wish the University Regents all the best as they continue their search for a president.”

Blank said that he was disappointed that Ellis does not want to continue to be a part of the selection process for the new president, but that he respects the admiral’s decision and wishes him well in his career following retirement from the military.
