Note: Members of the media are welcome to interview the student ambassadors outside the CenturyLink Center in Omaha from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Fifteen to 20 student ambassadors from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be at the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholders meeting this Saturday to engage with attendees and share the message of the “life investment” that higher education represents.
The students – representing the UNO cheerleading squad, UNO Ad Club, UNO Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Franchising, and the UNL Jacht Club – will help greet the roughly 40,000 attendees who descend on Omaha each year for the Berkshire Hathaway meeting.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Saturday, as attendees form a line outside the CenturyLink Center in anticipation of the shareholders meeting, students will visit with attendees and hand out water and university-branded koozies, coasters and faux $1 million bills that represent the million-dollar difference in the lifetime earnings of a bachelor’s degree recipient versus a high school graduate. The faux “bills” are plantable, with wildflower seeds embedded in the paper – a take-home message that higher education is a lifetime investment that grows over time.
Students also will be active on social media using #LifeInvestment and will encourage shareholders to do the same.
