Through Deen’s leadership, the Custodial Services Department has positioned itself as one of the top custodial operations around. Deen has developed a team-oriented department that values its members’ individual talents. He encourages his staff to be forward thinkers and consistently reminds them of their value to the department as well as the entire university.

The results of Deen’s leadership skills are evident in his department’s accomplishments. Custodial Services won a “Best Practices” award from the Central Association of College and University Business Officers for their successful creation and implementation of an online training program and for the value it added to the department and its endeavors. The “Best Practices” award is given annually by CACUBO to its member organizations that go above and beyond in their mission to create better, more efficient, and customer-friendly business practices.

UNL Custodial Services Department earned both ISSA’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard and CIMS-GB (Green Building) certifications with honors, making UNL the first and only Big Ten school to do so. According to the department’s third-party certification consultant, Bruce Stark, “The custodial staff at UNL is an integral part of the university and a key player in the success and reputation of the university.”

Deen is accompanied today by his wife. Please join me in thanking Deen for his dedication to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and to the Custodial Services Department.
