At the outset of his tenure as the seventh president of the University of Nebraska, Dr. Hank M. Bounds led a 20-stop statewide tour in early April, Getting to Know Nebraska, augmented by additional community visits over the summer. Now—at the start of the 2015–2016 academic year, 150 days in to his administration—Dr. Bounds and the University are launching Nebraska Talks: a Digital Listening Tour in a continued effort to listen and learn from stakeholders and inform his new leadership agenda.

Activated via Twitter with #PrezUnplugged, Nebraska Talks invites all citizens of the state—students, educators, business owners, civic leaders, policymakers and more—to engage in open, thoughtful dialogue with Dr. Bounds about the Nebraska education landscape, particularly higher ed. From September 14–30, 2015, Dr. Bounds will seek education and University-related questions and share real-time answers on his personal Twitter account, @HankBounds. To participate in Nebraska Talks, beginning on September 14, just tweet your questions and topics of conversation to @HankBounds, tagged with #PrezUnplugged.
Questions will range across a variety of education topics and could include:
- Questions around transferring college credit
- Keeping students in the state after graduation
- Rural education issue
- First generation students
- International experiences for NU students
- Online education and the need to expand broadband in the state
- The need to increase the population base in our state
- The UNL Chancellor search
- Public/private partnerships and how business can work with the university to mutual goals
- Dr. Bound’s strategy on growing NU
At the conclusion of the Nebraska Talks Twitter listening tour, Dr. Bounds will select two conversations to be continued, in-person. Chosen participants and their guest will have an opportunity to dialogue with Dr. Bounds in the president’s skybox at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, NE for the Saturday, October 24 Husker football game against Northwestern. Advancing conversations and selecting a winner will happen in three rounds: the first is based on the depth of the conversation, the second is based on thoughtfulness, creativity, and relevance, and the third is based on the opportunity for further, meaningful in-person discussion.
